Earl Carpenters Reef Tank

Eggcrate setup

I have used the eggcrate method explained in SRK, modified to fit my desires. This shows the framework build of plastic eggcrate to which I attached the live rock. Note the tent like structure that has open ends which become entrances to cave like areas for the fish to hide, especially at night.  The entire structure is held together with "Nylon Cable Ties"available at any of the larger hardware stores.  After the "Ties" are pulled up tight, as shown, the long ends are clipped off.  With an electric drill, I made holes in the back of my selected pieces of live rock, and attached them to the eggcrate structure with the same "Ties"

This shows my modified spray bar underneath the eggcrate

Here's the spraybar in the reef tank.  The ruler gives you an idea of  the size. Note the holes in the 1 1/2" support tubes to which the eggcrate platform was attached using the handy "Ties".  The 1 1/2" tubes are attached to the glass bottom with silicone,  the 3/4" spraybars sit into the notches cut into the support tubes.

Note the black hole below the "Toadstool" -- just to the left of center.   This is an entrance to one of the cave areas. I strongly suggest having such caves for your creatures to escape the activity around your reef aquarium.
