Comments: I have found your site inciteful. As much money as I have put into the system and as many books as I have read. You seem to be a bit more squared away than the normal "experts", so I come with Questions- I have a 45 tall 1-magnum 220 canister with the carbon media filter; 1-magnum 350 with the paper-filter type media (both filters have a sponge type media as well ); I have a emperor 280 filter that has a 2 carbon/sponge media filters in it. I have an expensive long heater that never needs to be running.I have two 36 bulbsboth are made by coral-lite and one has a blueish spectrum and both are very-brite. Yet I have still problems with algea(brownish) and a two-five week life span on fish, I have kept hermit-crabs for the longest until they got bigger than I could explain. Well I Do like fish and I have tried using everyones opinion so I bring my system and ask what would be your considerations for my tank and what chemicals.

Comments: Thank you for the interesting site.I found the 21 questions with your suggestions very interesting one question I would like to ask you if I may is What do you think of putting some live rock in the sump as part of the filter on some fish site I have seen on the web some people have had live rock in their sumps as part of there filtration system as well as their protein skimmer in the sump. Also if you don't mind answering this question is I have a fluidized bed filter from otto on my tank too. what do you think of them and do you think that they work?
Once again thank you very much for the site it was enjoyable to read and very interesting thank you very much.

Comments: Great site. The web has been a wonderful source of information and inspiration. I am attempting a Berlin micro-reef. I have many years freshwater tropical experience but was raised in the days when marines seemed to be horribly fragile and expensive. Technology and thinking has obviously moved on as no-one would have dreamed of a 10 gallon marine set-up when I was young.

I have many years freshwater tropical experience but was raised in the days when marines seemed to be horribly fragile and expensive. Technology and thinking has obviously moved on as no-one would have dreamed of a 10 gallon marine set-up when I was young. Anyway, I am about to launch into it. I have the tank, a skimmer, the gravel, the salt, a source of RO water, a hydrometer. I now need the lights and I can order the live sand and rocks. Ultimately I am going to see how well I do and then probably try a 40 gallon mini-reef. I figure if I can do it small then big should be easier. Thank you for your site and all the information therein.

Comments: Very interesting site, and a very nice tank, i noticed you like kalk, i used it for a little over a year, then started using b-ionic, and i have been using it for going on 3 years now with an mtc doser, works very good.Couldn't get calcium up using kalk (low evaporation)and it also got to be a pain mixing and dripping every night. Not really sure what I'm going to use on my new 100g tank.I just finished the plumbing and will be ordering the sand in a week or 2.B-ionic will cost too much for 2 tanks.I have a 6g
resivor with float valve to replace evaporated water and thought about using lime water in that but you and other people have said that lime water has too be used within 24 hours after it has been mixed.
