So, I figured out something. My first check was to call Panavision to see if there is anything that exist in photographic filter (or cinema, the same) to get close to a MH. Wasn't I astonished when I heard a «yes» on the phone!!! Rosco makes such a filter (do not have the number at hand but isn't called something like Deep blue) made to turn a 3200K lamp into a... 10 000K lamp!!! Cost: 8$ Can for 1' X 4' (4 sf). then use three 300 watts (= 900 watts) halogen lamps (around 4000K) in a row. Minus the light loss of the filter density one ends up with a 200 watts output (you see, i use watts!!!) at around 10 500K. No UV overdose problems. Total for me including suspended black melamine canopy of 48", three lamps (8$ each), three socket (8$ each-no transfo for theese 300 watts lamps-), a couple of small fans, the filter: around 85$ Can! I'm definitely going to try that!

Well --- If you can apply a "filter" to turn a 3200K into a 10000K that will actually provide correct lighting to the tank, then my hat (and Im sure everyone else in the hobby as well) would be off to you. I seriously think thats highly unlikely.... Please document everything you do so you can present your findings. I've never heard of using filters in the tank, Id be very interested in the outcome
