Are you sure it is Aquaristat and not Aquarium manager?
Aquaristat is an Access database and you need microsoft access to use
it.. there is no "installation". If you mean aquarium manager.. that needs win zip to install most
machines have win zip
if you don't have it go to http://www.winzip.com/ddchomea.htm to download
it.
Possibly I mis read your message.
If you have Microsoft access try opening the file through access. Try
this
simply save it with another name and then you can make changes.
I have tried what you said to do. I get as far as "this file is read only"
but I can't save it with another name, as it does not give me that option.
I know I am doing something wrong but don't know what. My version is Access
is 7.0.
Ok then you can access it... which is good.
Heres what you do to save the file.
Browse the cd through windows
press the windows key [the key on the left between ctrl and alt ] and e
[this opens windows explorer]
browse the cd to D:\Bin\cdrom\Inf\Database\origfish2.mdb
highlight the file origfish2.mdb and using the windows toolbar select >
edit copy
then browse to C:\My documents and then use edit paste
this will copy the file from the cd to your documents
then... while you have the file origfish2.mdb in your documents right
click on it select *properties* and
unckeck "read only" then select "apply"
thats it [it sounds more complicated that it is]
From then on.. if you want to work on or add to the file... go to C:\My
documents and find the name you gave it, and then just double click it.
If for some reason you make changes that you don't want to keep or you
feel you want to start over, just repeat the process.
I'm glad to see you're using the cd. Have you tried SearchIt to query
the archives of reef discussion? Thats very useful...
Let me know if the access works for you.
It's me again. I am doing all that you tell me to and still I get error
messages. I think it must be something with access. I get the error
messages as follows."Microsoft Access couldn't create storage space for a
visual basic module. ". Also next window "Device I/O error. Maybe my Access
is not working right. In My Documents I changed the name to Fish?
I am using the rest of the CD and am enjoying it very much.
Thank You for your help. Don't know if there is anything else we can do.
Ok, did you copy the file from the cd to C:\My Documents?
Did you right click on it when it is in there and change the attributes
(from read only to archive)?
Then double click the file to open it?
The attribute issue is that when you put files on a cd they become "read
only" meaning you cant edit them. BUt you can change the properties of
that by right clicking on the file, once its copied off of the cd and
choosing properties and changing it to archive.
I'm running office 97 so my version is access 97 and I have no trouble.
What I can do is send you the file via email zipped up. Its about
400kilobytes. I was going to send it but I figured I'd ask you first.
The zipped file will not have the attribute problem and you should just
be able to double click it and choose save to disk
Choose C:\My Documents then unzip with win zip.
Then double click it which will intern trigger access.
I'm not sure what the problem is
Ok what Ill do is up load it to the web for you
Let me know what transpires
I want to thank you for taking the time to help me. I am sorry that I have
put you to all this work to find out it is on my end.
Oh Its no problem. I'm happy to do it. Possibly you don't have access
installed properly. You could try doing a find
start button find look for *.mdb [FYI mdb= microsoft database]
if you find files on you machine try double clicking on them and see if
access can open it.
Ill leave the file on the web for another day so you can grab it if
needed.
If you browse to the Inf\database\directory on the cd you'll find that
there are 2 other database files there. One is a listing of IDs for
corals, the other my reef survey. The Aquaristat is pretty neat although
it would probably take some time to get comfortable with it.
Good Luck and let me know if you get it working
