Oxygen in water, and powerheads

I was told that if I do not have the powerheads running with tiny air bubbles in the water, everything will die, is this true?

No! Whoever told you that?

The air bubbles "in the water" do nothing but add astetics.

Oxygen enters the water when the bubbles *burst on the surface* (I think that's in the book)

I do have a SeaClone protein skimmer for aquariums up to 100 gallons. Do you need to see bubbles in the water in order to have oxygenation? No, your water is getting plenty of oxygen from the skimmer and if you had a sump with a drip plate you would get even more oxygen making your water super saturated with oxygen.

Again power heads are ok in a freshwater or fish only tank but in my opinion are very problematic in a reef tank. I think all my reasoning is in the book as well
