Hummm.. can you give me a page number where I refer to that? Ok I see. pg 89 I'm talking about a 55 gal over a 48 hour period. That's assuming you're adding 5 gallons of make up water. On a 55 that may be too much water to replace at one time.
I suppose its a matter of maintenance preference and how your system is setup to handle low water. If you can afford to be 5 gal low I would recommend to add 2.5 gallons one evening and the remainder the next evening. If your system cant afford to be low 5 gallons then I would plan on adding kalk in 2.5 gallon increments. If you want to simplify the mixing process you may need to input hoses. One would be at the bottom of the bucket (as I show) with the weight, the other would be 1/2 way up. So it would stop at 1/2 of the bucket. To get the hose 1/2 way up simply attach it to the weight and leave enough so it curves upward.
Dosing during the day has two somewhat undesirable effects. 1- It clouds the water badly 2- It could raise the pH higher than needed. This is because the pH rises quickly when the lights are on. I'd recommend dosing in 2.5 gallon increments nightly. Having the lights on timers is definitely the way to go and 90% of the people on the reefkeepers survey use timers. Ideally we/you want to make maintenance as easy as possible. Let me know if that answers your question. Robert
