Robert, I have one question, in your book you
recommend dosing 5gals in a 48hr. period,
Im talking about a 55 gal over a 48 hour period. That's assuming you're
adding 5 gallons of make up water. On a 55 that may be too much water to
replace at one time.
I suppose its a matter of maintenance preference and how your system is
setup to handle low water. If you can afford to be 5 gal low I would
recommend to add 2.5 gallons one evening and the remainder the next
evening. If your system cant afford to be low 5 gallons then I would
plan on adding kalk in 2.5 gallon increments. If you want to simplify
the mixing process you may need to input hoses. One would be at the
bottom of the bucket (as I show) with the weight, the other would be 1/2
way up. So it would stop at 1/2 of the bucket. To get the hose 1/2 way
up simply attach it to the weight and leave enough so it curves upward.
But you also say the best
time to dose is when lights are out. my lights are on timers, will
dosing during the day have any effect on PH or any other parameters I
try to maintain? the lights will cycle aprox. 18hrs in that 48hr.
period.
The 5gal in 48hr. I was using as a example. I usally do 2-3 gals, but even
at that it still takes at least 24-28hrs to dose the 2-3 gals. Im I taking
to long to dose the tank?
If you use the 5 gallon bucket with the airline tube... you can add the
2 - 3 gallons in Id guess less than 5 hours. Check out my mixing
suggestion of using a 5 gallon bucket, with the airline tube on a
weight, mixing with a powerhead. You want to use regular airline/air
pump tubing, if it drips too fast - make a clamp
Dosing during the day has two somewhat undesirable effects.
