Thoughts on Ro vs DI water purification

Before I read your book I was using water straight from the tap(dechlorinated.) I hated doing it but had no other choice. since then I have purchased a Kent Marine POSTDI unit, I have a charcoal prefilter, my problem is that after about 30-40gals the resin is depleted.

I know that the POSTDI is made to mount with a R.O. unit, but I was told (by Kent Marine) that the POSTDI would work fine as long as I have the prefilter. Well @$25 a cartridge and I'm only getting the 30-40gals I just as well should go with a R.O. the only problem is the water waste,(I pay the city for water) you once directed me to Spectrapure but they are wholesale only, I would like to stay with D.I. but need to come up with a better system. any thoughts?

I don't think I "recommended" Spectrapure. (although there definitely the most popular)

I might have said "If you already have one, they are good (popular) filters" but I always recommend straight DI because of the problems you're describing.

As far as I know...

  • Ultralife is the only company who sells a nice di filter
  • cost about $250
  • holds 1 gallon of resin
  • 1 gall resin = aprox 600 gallons of water on average
  • gallon resin cost about $60
  • do a search for Ultralife
